BAROSSA SHIRAZ 2006 THE VINEYARDS
Mature old vine Barossa Shiraz vineyards located in the sub regions of Rowland Flat, Gomersal, Nuriootpa and Stonewell were selected as the grape source for this wine with complexity, strong regional character and depth of flavour being the key criteria. Soils in these vineyards are predominantly red brown loam, with patches in some vineyards showing shallow sand over clay. Harvest date was determined when the balance of flavour, acid and colour was at its optimum.
COLOUR Deep crimson red. BOUQUET Intense and powerful with an underlying elegance. Displaying ripe, plum, spice and dark berry fruit with intriguing notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, vanilla and mocha oak. PALATE A full-bodied wine with rich creamy textural sweet ripe fruits. Tight clove like oak notes are complemented by fine, persistent tannins and excellent natural acidity. A structured palate with a long, flavoursome and supple finish. ASSESSMENT A wine of unmistakable regional Barossa character. A simple philosophy of maturing rich and pristine shiraz parcels from exceptional vineyards in the highest quality oak. The result has produced a wine of complexity, structure, balance and finesse that will reward the patient for a period of at least 10 years if carefully cellared. Drink Richmond Grove wines responsibly

The Age 22/7/09 A bit of an old-fashioned Barossa Shiraz here with stacks of earthy dark plum fruit and lashings of vanillin oak. At the same time, it retains a silky-smooth elegance that’s sustained to a long finish. Great-value cellaring wine. Ray Jordan - West Australian 25th June 2009
